From Hanstholm to Vancouver via the Panama Canal
The Danish protein trawler Hm 379 Lingbank has been sold to Canada, where in the future it will fish for hake in the Pacific Ocean off the west coast of Canada. Following several months of retrofitting, the trawler is now ready to cross the Atlantic. It will take around two months and 10,000 sea miles for the trawler to reach Vancouver.
Even though the trawler is in good condition, the extensive work carried out has left it looking almost completely new. The trawler now has a new MOB crane and MOB boat, two new trawler winches, extra cooling for the ear, and the freshwater tanks and toilet tanks have been sandblasted. The hull, engine, gear and shafts have been inspected, measured and examined for cracks. All of the fish tanks have been cleaned, coated and equipped with new fish pumps. The trawler has been given a general makeover – it has been painted and various repairs have been made to doors, windows etc. and it has new carpets.
Everything has been inspected, checked and documented so that gaining approval from the Canadian authorities will be a formality.
The trawler’s new owners, Canadian Fishing Company, are so impressed with the project that they want to continue to collaborate with North Sea Yard with regard to service and know-how, despite the large distance. We take that as a huge endorsement of our work.
